Kerry M Thomas
Kerry M. Thomas is an internationally respected educator, presenter, and equine behavior specialist whose work explores how horses—and people—experience anxiety, stress, communication, and performance. Often described as a translator of the equine mind, Kerry’s work bridges natural herd dynamics with modern sport, welfare, leadership, and human–animal partnership. He is the founder of Herd Dynamics & Sensory Soundness™, an integrated and highly innovative framework used across disciplines to better understand emotional regulation, sensory processing, and behavioral expression in motion. His work challenges the idea that performance and behavior can be separated from internal experience, emphasizing instead the role of perception, environment, and relationship. At its core, this work is driven by a commitment to advancing equine welfare through education and responsible, horse-centered evaluation. Kerry’s career has been shaped by decades of independent field research, including the study of wild horses and predator–prey systems, combined with applied education, consultation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Today, he works internationally across equine and human-focused industries—lecturing, presenting, and advising organizations, professionals, and institutions seeking deeper insight into welfare, performance, leadership, and communication under pressure. His educational work includes international clinics, keynote presentations, professional collaborations, and the development of his Learning Library, featuring free lessons, a comprehensive glossary, masterclasses, and The Psychology Of: webinar series. Together, these offerings form a boutique, evolving body of work designed for professionals and educators working at the intersection of performance, psychology, care, and long-term equine well-being. Kerry’s insights have contributed to the selection and development of elite equine athletes worldwide, including Runhappy, Beauty Generation, and City of Light, as well as countless high-performing horses across disciplines. His work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Barefoot Horse Magazine, Arabian Horse Magazine, Bit & Cap, and other international media outlets. At the core of his work is a simple philosophy: Understanding must come before instruction, because what a horse (or human) experiences internally determines everything that follows. — Kerry M. Thomas Kerry’s work has been applied internationally across education, performance, welfare, and professional development. Through decades of research, teaching, and consultation, he has collaborated with institutions, organizations, and private clients around the world, bringing herd dynamics and sensory understanding into practical, real-world application.
